There may not be much that is certain in life, but here are three things that are certain in the world of cooking:

1. You will always happen to be wearing a white shirt when preparing tomatoes, pomegranates or beetroot.
2. You will never be able to brown meatballs ‘evenly on all sides’, because they are in fact spherical and therefore do not have sides.
3. You will never, ever, find a recipe that calls for an entire red cabbage.
